The Light-Hearted

GLIDE, we've seen, is a light and graceful movement. 

Another light and sportive move is denoted by the term GAMBOL. When we GAMBOL we walk, jump or move with quick, light and fast steps. We CAVORT when we GAMBOL. Or we can say we FLIT. Butterflies FLIT from flower to flower,i.e., they take short and light flights.  

GAMBOL also means to ROMP. Children who ROMP in a courtyard, move about in a playful way. Hence,

CAVORT: SPORTIVE

When we cavort, we are sportive or playful

in the same way as

FLIRT: AMOROUS

When we flirt we are playfully loving(amorous).

We have seen that GAMBOL, CAVORT, ROMP, and FLIT are SYNONYMS. 

Just as these terms indicate light, playful, and quick movements, TRUDGE and PLOD indicate slow, heavy movements. When we TRUDGE or PLOD we walk with slow, heavy steps. Hence,

GAMBOL x PLOD

FLIT x TRUDGE

On the other hand, when we SAUNTER, STROLL, or STRIDE we walk with long, steady steps. So,

SAUNTER: WALK

When we saunter we walk with long, drawn-out steps,

just as

PRATE (drawl): SPEAK

when we prate we speak with long, drawn-out syllables;

or, just as

LOPE: RUN

When we lope we run with long strides.

A contrasting movement for STRIDE can be MINCE, to walk with short, quick steps.When we STRIDE we take big steps; when we MINCE we take small steps, just as when we SIP we take small quantities ; when we QUAFF (GUZZLE, GULP) we take large quantities. Hence,

QUAFF: SIP

is same in relation as

STRIDE: MINCE

or

SEAR: WARM

(To sear\SCORCH\is to heat to a large degree, while to warm is to heat to a small degree.)

is same in relation as

GUSH: TRICKLE

(To gush is to emerge in large quantities; to trickle is to emerge in small quantities.)
