11. THEIST
A believer in God.
THEIST is from THEO, the Greek for God.
from THEO we have THEOLOGY, the study of religion. A THEOLOGIST teaches religion in a SEMINARY, the school for religion, just as an ARTIST teaches in a CONSERVATORY, the school of arts.
THEOLOGIAN: SEMINARY
ARTIST: CONSERVATORY
A THEOLOGIAN is concerned with FAITH, just as a PATHOLOGIST is concerned with
disease.
THEOLOGIAN: FAITH
PATHOLOGIST: DISEASE
PHILOLOGIST: LANGUAGE
ORNITHOLOGIST: BIRD
The ANTONYM of theist is ATHEIST, the non-believer. Apart from THEIST and ATHEIST, there' s the SKEPTIC in religious matters. A SKEPTIC is a great doubter. He/she doubts whether there is a god or not. A skeptic's defining trait is doubt, just as a BIGOT's defining trait is BIAS.
