XIX: GRIEF and JOY

ELEGIAC contrasts neatly with ECSTATIC. Ecstatic comes from ECSTASY. Ecstasy is the highest degree of pleasure or joy. It is like EUPHORIA or BLISS or MIRTH. When we have JOY we SMILE. When we have MIRTH we CHORTLE[ laugh]. Look at some pairs of antonyms given below:
EUPHORIC x MELANCHOLIC
ECSTATIC x DEJECTED
EUPHORIA or ECSTASY is a higher form of JOY, in the same way as CRIME is a higher form of MISBEHAVIOR.
MISBEHAVIOR: CRIME
JOY: EUPHORIA
ELEGY, we've seen, is an expression of grief;in the same way, SATIRE is an expression of IRONY or RIDICULE. One who writes a satire we call SATIRIST. A SATIRIST's function is to ridicule. A satirist can as well be called a LAMPOON ER, because LAMPOON is also a form of SATIRE. LAMPOON as a verb means to RIDICULE, SCORN, CONTEMN, or DERIDE.
Eulogy, elegy, tirade, satire and such things are all various forms of verbal expressions. When we can express ourselves in words very well we are called ELOQUENT or ARTICULATE. To be ARTICULATE or ELOQUENT is to be very GRACEFUL or ELEGANT in speech. When our movements are well-coordinated, we describe our movement as GRACEFUL; when our words are well-coordinated we call our speech ELOQUENT. Hence,
SPEECH: ARTICULATE
MOVEMENT: GRACEFUL
or
TALK: ARTICULATE
WALK: ELEGANT
